Time Commitment.
Investigating the paranormal can be fun and fulfilling, but it can also take a large part of your time. We investigate at least once a month, usually on the weekends. While most investigations end around 2am, there are times we do stay overnight. What many new investigators don't realize is the large amount of time spent on evidence review after the investigation wraps. Every full time member of the team is responsible for some portion of evidence review. Great attention to detail, time management, and basic computer skills are required.
In addition, we attend paranormal conventions (as attendees and vendors), fundraisers, collaboration investigations, and other paranormal events. We believe strongly in para-unity; not only within our team, but with other teams and paranormal investigators. We also host public events a few times a year and are the resident paranormal team for the Buchanan Log House in Nashville, TN.
Experience.
Some experience is preferred, but not required. Experience helps eliminate those who are unsure if investigating the paranormal is right for them. Many are interested in the paranormal because it seems fun and exciting and many just want to go for the thrill of it. We lead with the time commitment so it's easy to see that although it can be fun and thrilling, it's also work and takes up a contribution of time. Logical thinkers and scientifically driven investigators usually catch our attention. We will train the right person, even if they do not have much experience.
Passion for the Paranormal.
Paranormal Investigation isn’t some big glamorous thing. It’s not a means to exploit or pad pockets. It’s time spent on a passion. Some investigations are active and wild for the duration, but most are much like fishing. You must pack patience and a level head knowing there may only be a few “hits” over many hours of time. Passion and pursuit drives us. We get to be a part of ensuring the stories of those who once walked this earth live on. We get to help educate people who may be scared or concerned about entities they don’t yet understand. We get to gather, study, and confirm or debunk evidence that brings insight. We also get to learn. We get to explore new techniques and technologies. We get to see some of the forgotten beauty of days gone by. We get to meet new people and make great friends.
Expenses.
Investigating can be expensive. We are volunteers, not paid employees. Members are expected to pay their own travel expenses. Most places charge a fee to investigate. The cost can range anywhere from $30-$100 per person, per investigation. We require team members to have their own basic investigative toolkit (flashlight, audio recorder, EMF meter, trigger objects, etc.). Our team has a stock of gear for use; however, every member should have their own basic investigation kit. In addition, all team members must purchase a NightSong Paranormal team shirt and wear it to every team function. Please consider the costs before applying.
Trust.
Our members must be trustworthy, a team player, have a good work ethic, excellent time management, pay attention to the details, be professional, have compassion, actively contribute, and be willing to think outside the box. We are very much like family. New members are placed on a probational period before becoming full time members.
Work Ethic & Professionalism.
Our team members are logical, polite, professional, compassionate, and are truly there to help find answers. We investigate with respect, always.
Have Faith (whatever that looks like for you).
Having a strong faith (belief in a higher power) is important and protection is needed when investigating the paranormal. Because we are dealing with unseen forces and have a threat of possible attachments, every member should be protected before going into an investigation. We welcome anyone who is in alignment with peace, love, empathy, compassion, respect, value for life/others, etc. We also do not participate in any occult type rituals.
